So what happens to the shipping container that we bought?
So is the shipping container that we bought simply left to rust after the bikes are delivered to the village? No! Rather, the shipping container is transformed into a Bicycle Empowerment Centre (BEC) that becomes an integral part of the village. Stocked with the 400 to 500 bikes, the spare parts and the accessories that we sent, the shipping container is converted into a usable building. Doors and windows are cut-out, a heat shielding roof is installed on top and the shipping container becomes a community-based bicycle repair shop. Five to six jobs are created as locals are trained in bicycle repair and in fact become entrepreneurs, maintaining and selling bicycles on behalf of their community.
